At Birchwood, we strongly believe that educators should be lifelong learners, constantly seeking to expand their knowledge and refine their skills to better serve our children. Our dedicated team embraces a culture of professional development. They engage in pedagogical workshops, participate in collaborative learning opportunities, and even travel to Reggio Emilia, Italy for training. With a deep commitment to excellence, our educators are passionate about fostering a love for learning in both themselves and the children they nurture. We inspire our young learners to embrace a lifelong journey of discovery, curiosity, and wonder, through their own curiosity and dedication to personal growth, we are true co-learners.
Ms. Sandra
Owner/DirectorSandra is a wife and mother of five incredible children with a deep love for nature and animals. Sandra has been in the Early Learning and Childcare sector for over 20 years in various capacities, including as a Child Development Worker, Educational Assistant, Substitute JK teacher, Lead Educator, Director, and Casual Early Childhood Education Instructor with a local college.
Sandra recently returned from the Loris Malaguzzi Centre in Reggio Emilia, Italy which intensified her passion and commitment to early learning. She is thrilled to work with incredible educators who share her dedication to children, families, and the beautiful DeWinton community.

Ms. Heather
Heather is a mother to three wonderful children, an artist and passionate early educator. She believes creativity is foundational for holistic child development and infuses the learning room with experiences that inspire innovation, critical thinking and imagination.
As a Reggio inspired educator, Heather works intentionally with materials and the environment to foster a love of discovery and curiosity in children. Her speciality is collaborative process-based art projects that promote community and supports learning across developmental domains.
Ms. Rachel
Ms. Rachel, the second eldest of five siblings, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role as a Casual Early Childhood Educator (ECE) in our program.
With many years of ECE experience already under her belt, she is currently in her third year of a child studies degree, continuously deepening her understanding of child development.
Ms. Rachel is known for her unwavering devotion to the children she works with, always approaching each day with a calm and patient demeanor.
Her background and passion for education shine through in her interactions, making her an invaluable asset to our team.
